5 Cylinder Radial Engine Pneumatic Assembly Model Building Blocks Set MOC-39694Ā (872PCS)
Features:
Radial engines are primarily used in Aircraft, however some can be found in tanks, cars and generators as well. A key aspect of radial engines is the odd number of cylinders, (5, 7, 9 etc.) this has to do with the firing sequence of the cylinders themselves. Always firing every other cylinder, so for a 5 cylinder engine the sequence is as followed: 1 - 3 - 5 - 2 - 4 - 1 - 3 - etc.
As it turns out there is no native pentagon shaped piece (at least that I know of) so some creativity was required on my part. Luckily I found some of those nice frames in my collection, those turned out to be perfect and thus the design process began.
Initially I cheated a little bit, creating 5 identical 1 cylinder engines and sticking them together with a gear in the center. This worked, however I wasn't to happy yet as it wasn't a true radial engine. So I continued and come to a design that did work, well sort off. It runs but not as smooth anymore, this yet again came back to not having proper pentagon shapes. However, it works, and that was my primary goal. A true and working radial engine.
